Spine Week 12 Case 5

History: 33 years old with radicular shoulder and upper arm pain.
Findings: At C4/C5 there is an extramedullary intradural mass which makedly indents the left hemicord and extends through the left C5 neural exit foramen, slightly widening it. It enhances relatively homogeneously and exhibits T2 hyperintensity. The overall appearances are in keeping with a nerve sheath tumour.
Normal sagittal vertebral alignment and bone marrow signal.
Opinion: C4/C5 presumed nerve sheath tumour. Given the patient’s age, a contrast scan of the rest of the brain and spine can be considered to confirm that it is a solitary lesion.
