• Located between the left diaphragmatic crus and the thoracic spine at the T11-12 level, is a lobular soft tissue mass which measures approximately 60 x 54 x 33 mm in dimension. It has heterogeneous intermediate signal on T1 and very low signal on T2, showing little enhancement following contrast. Considering the T2-weighted signal characteristics, the features may be those of a melanotic schwannoma. There is no extension into the spinal canal, but the lesion is closely related to the T11 dorsal root ganglion and exiting nerve. There is no erosion of the adjacent vertebral bodies or neural arch/ribs. No other significant spinal abnormality is demonstrated
• Conclusion: Possible melanotic schwannoma in the left lower thoracic paravertebral region. The lesion would clearly be amenable to a GA CT-guided needle biopsy.
